Commitment to Marriage

Divorce rates show how strong the commitment to marriage is consistent with ’til death do us part.’ Are there reasons to divorce? Yes. It is our responsible choice whether the grounds are severe and dangerous behaviors or are the frustrating behaviors of every day life.

Commitment to marriage is not a commitment to erotic attraction ’til death do us part.’ Commitment to marriage is not a commitment to agreement on everything ’til death do us part.’ Commitment to marriage is not a commitment to staying only if our spouse does not change ’til death do us part.’ Commitment to marriage is not a commitment as long as our spouse changes to our satisfaction ’til death do us part.’ Commitment to marriage is not a commitment to avoid conflict ’til death do us part.’

We will have discovered marriage is a commitment to help our spouse grow emotionally and spiritually and a commitment to ourself to grow emotionally and spiritually with our spouse……….’til death do us part’……no matter what.

Commitment to Change – Quote

A OneRoad Traveled Roadsign

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

                 Margaret Mead

Change of Attitude Quotes

Human beings, by changing the inner attitude of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

William James

He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts.

Samuel Johnson

Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different. Life would undergo a change of appearance because we ourselves had undergone a change in attitude.
Katherine Mansfield
These are RoadSigns for our journey on OneRoad Traveled.

Yes Attitude – Past

Our past is our past. It cannot be changed. The only attitude to have is YES, I have a past.

For those past events that are happy experiences, we say yes. Yes I have had many great experiences, both lessons for the future and memories to cherish forever.

For those past events we remember as sad, troublesome, even tragic, we say yes. Yes, we will have had negative experiences, which we discover it best to consider of great value in growing as a unique person and living a full, rich life.

Consistent Behavior

Consistent behavior helps us build character, relationships, strengths, successes, and more. Like many great things, it can be overdone and become a weakness. We will have discovered it can be beneficial to have:

behavior that is consistent

  • With our beliefs
  • with our purpose
  • with our promises and commitments
  • with who we really are
  • with our daily needs
  • with the goals we set

Consistent behavior can become a weakness when we get stuck in our routines. We will have discovered a need to strike a balance between consistency and the personal growth that comes from creativity, risk taking, spontaneity, and intentional change.

Changing Habits

If we repeatedly perform selfish acts, we become a selfish person.

If we repeatedly play the lottery, slot machines, and/or the horses, we become a gambler.

If we repeatedly fail to tell the truth, we become a liar.

If we repeately steal things from others, we become a thief.

If we repeatedly inject heroin into our body, we become a heroin addict.

We will have discovered to choose our habits wisely. Changing long term habits is as difficult to do as anything in life.

Paths for Life

For the countless choices in life, the truth is there are simply three paths before us at all times:

  • Accept with Peace
  • Bow Out with Grace
  • Change with Responsibility

The paths for our joyful journey are as easy as ABC to describe and as difficult to execute as life itself.
